Meet Our Dietitian Pamela Wu And Her Expectations For FNCE 2018

Since 2016, Pamela Wu has been a member of our Global Consumer Safety team based in Torrance, California. She is a registered dietitian and works directly with our distributors on nutrition safety training and education. This year, Pamela will join several other Herbalife Nutrition employees that will attend the 2018 edition of the Food Nutrition Conference and Expo (FNCE), the world’s largest meeting of food and nutrition experts who come together to address key issues affecting the health of all Americans.
1. How long have you been working with Herbalife Nutrition and what is your role in the Company?
I will celebrate my 2-year anniversary with Herbalife Nutrition this November. My role as a Medical Science Liaison includes developing nutrition safety materials (videos, brochures, FAQs) and answer health and safety inquires.
2. Why did you choose nutrition as a career?
I chose nutrition as a career because I believe that good nutrition is an integral part of preventive health, along with physical activity.
3. What is the best part of your job?
Working with a great team who is committed to helping people live a healthier and happier life through lifestyle changes.
4. Everyone, even nutritionists, have a ‘guilty pleasure’ when it comes to food. What’s yours?
Desserts are my “guilty pleasures”. My all-time favorite is crème brûlée which I enjoy once a year on my birthday.
5. What do you look forward to in FNCE 2018? Which is topic that interests you the most?
The aging American population is rapidly expanding and I am very interested in elderly nutrition and identifying dietary guidelines to maintain optimal health and delay the onset of chronic disease.
6. What is the most common misconception about nutrition/food you encounter?
Eating healthy is expensive. You can eat healthy on a budget by planning your meals ahead and shopping wisely. There are numerous resources available to suit your needs.
7. How do you think technology and social media have impacted the nutrition industry?
Technology and social media is a tool that can deliver a message (positive and negative) to reach a large audience quickly. You can also get feedback quickly, which will let the company know what products consumers want (from packaging to ingredients). In turn, the industry can provide products that consumers would like much quicker.
8. What is the most radical transformation you envision for nutrition in the coming years?
In the future, our food intake and exercise plan will be solely dependent on our genotype. A genotype is a person’s complete heritable genetic identity, his or her unique genome. This is quite relevant because it can provide information about the diseases you are genetically prone to, which may lead to better-focused, more effective preventive measures.
9. If you had just one piece of nutrition advice to give to someone, what would it be?
Remember to eat fruits and vegetables every day.
10. At Herbalife Nutrition, our purpose is to make the world healthier and happier. How would you define your purpose?
My purpose is to educate the consumers on nutrition and clear up any misconceptions they may have.
11. What is your favorite Formula 1 shake recipe?
My favorite F1 shake recipe is s vanilla shake with ½ cup of spinach and ½ cup of fruit. It adds a small amount of fruits and vegetables to my breakfast to start the day.
